He died 18  December 1886 Oyster Bay, NY and was buried in Brookville Cem. He married Ann Nostrand (b. 7 April 1811 and bap. 5 May 1811, Wolver Hollow and d. 5 May 1850 at age 39-0-28 at Norwich, NY and bur. Brookville Cem.) 21 December 1831, Wolver Hollow, NY. Ann is the dau. of Garret and Sarah (Valentine) Nostrand. (in 1880 US Census for Dist 293, Queens, NY, John is living in the home of son-in-law, Edmund Larrabee--the husband of his daughter, Sarah.)

Children: Sarah^7 Van Wicklen, b. 9 August 1832, Oyster Bay, NY and died before 12 August 1902, Oyster Bay, NY (see Brooklyn Eagle Obit below). She married Edmund Larrabee (b. abt 1824, NY) 12 January 1854, Oyster Bay who predeceased her. They had a daughter, Annie and a son, William E.; Mary^7 Van Wicklen, b. 22 July 1834, Oyster Bay, NY. She married John Conway of Brooklyn, NY; Garret^7 Van Wicklen was bap. 9 March 1836, Wolver Hollow RDC. He married Lydia Carpenter 31 December 1865; Daniel^7 Van Wicklen, b. 6 June 1837, Oyster Bay, NY. He married Julia _____ who eventually received a civil war pension; Ann Eliza^7 Van Wicklen, b. 2 April 1839, Oyster Bay, NY and d. 8 April 1888 and bur. Brookville Cem. She did not marry; Catherine^7 Luezar Van Wicklen, b. 23 August 1840, Oyster Bay, NY; Susan^7 Van Wicklen, b. 14 January 1842, Oyster Bay, NY. She married William H. Chapman of Brooklyn (Morris Park as of 1902); Emma^7 Catherine Van Wicklen, b. 23 August 1843, Oyster Bay, NY. She married George Bennet 26 May 1864, Oyster Bay (Jamaica as of 1902); Peter^7 Luyster Van Wicklen, b. 8 May 1845, Oyster Bay, NY. He married Violetta ____ (b. Additional information on Daniel's military record. Enlisted 6 October 1861 as Pvt. in Co. F, 87th Inf. Reg., NY (Union) at age 23--distinguished service. He transferred to Co. F, 40th Infantry Reg. on 6 Sep 1862 and deserted Co. F, 40th on 7 Sep 1862 in Alex., VA. On 28 November 1863, as resident of Pleasant Springs, Wisconsin, he enlisted in Co. A, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, Wisconsin and transferred 23 March 1865 from Co. A to Co. K. He mustered out of 3rd Cav. on 29 Sept 1865.

Brooklyn Eagle, 12 August 1902, page 10 - Obituary - Long Island - Mrs. Sarah Larrabee       Oyster Bay, L.I., August 12 - The funeral of Mrs. Sarah Larrabee, mother of Miss Annie Larrabee, the postmistress of this place, occurred yesterday afternoon, the Rev. Alexander G. Russell of the Presbyterian Church officiating. Mrs. Larrabee was born in East Norwich in 1832. She was the daughter of John L. Van Wicklen of that place. She married Edmund W. Larrabee, now deceased. She leaves two children, Miss Annie Larrabee and William Larrabee, both of Oyster Bay, and three sisters, Mrs. Thomas Marthing of East Norwich, Mrs. Emma Bennett of Jamaica, and Mrs. William Chapman of Morris Park. The Interment was in a private cemetery in this village.
